Riots in London

Wed Aug 10, 2011, 10:47 AM
What do you think? Do you think it's just mindless chaos or does it have a general principle behind it that most people can't see? Do you think that in the end these riots are going to positively influence England and by extension the world?

Both. People are fucked off because government is taking away benefits, jobs, cutting services the poor need - and people like being cunts. They like rioting.
Being from Belfast, there's a riot, and there's looting and setting fire to property. Different things. We riot here - no one's home is set on fire. No stores are destroyed, no factories, no landmarks.

The peaceful protest was ignored - this is not being ignored. I get it. But the only damage they are doing is to themselves. Where will we find the money to pay for the damage? Taxes. Where will taxes not go? To help the poor and maligned. Who is going to be demonised? The lower classes. So it's really very, very foolish and I'd wager 90% of the people setting fire to cars are not thinking one bit of how what they are doing will affect them.

People might be rioting because they don't like the system, but they're making it worse.

Both if you ask me.

I think the whole riot could have been avoided if the police were more responsible for their own actions.

I don't like how people keep saying that "THEY'RE CRIMINALS" and not noticing the gap between the rich and poor there. True there are some selfish people trying to make names for themselves, but there's a lot of high unemployment among youth and the poor aren't able to live stable lives.

The death of Mark Duggan may have been the origin for all of this but it definitely wasn't the main cause. I'm not sure if they've concluded whether the police really did act out of defense in a life threatening situation or not.

I'm aware of the gap betwen the rich and the poor, but I'm still definitely gonna call most of the rioters criminals. A fair few of them are youths with no discipline and no on site empathy, the others 21-30 year olds that have no jobs. Even with the latter, it doesn't justify ransacking small businesses, mocking frightened civilians while they cower in their stores behind the glass and stealing whatever they can get their hands on whilst shouting "FUCK THE POLICE" or "I'M GETTING MY TAXES BACK".

It's not shocking however it's still unacceptable. o:

I'm aware of that, but from what I've researched, there was no evidence that Duggan even fired a shot.

It is true that looters are rampant in the streets and as I've said, some selfish people are trying to make names for themselves. Of course, nobody is innocent in a riot. I would prefer that the rioters at least take their anger on the government rather than the civilians.

I see both the police and the rioters in the wrong here.

Duggan had a loaded gun, end of. In America that means a different thing, but over here if you ever have a gun then you intend to use it as they are 100% illegal for anything below a hunting rifle.

The police are doing an excellent job here.

UK gun laws and US gun laws are irrelevant.

It doesn't change the fact that Duggan had not fired a shot and the police were irresponsible.

my point is that if someone has a gun in the US, it's not necessarily a bad thing. Over here it most definately is, especially in north london.
