There will be 8 winning places. First, second, third and 5 runner ups.
Judging Criteria:
Judges:
Rules & Guidelines:
Theme, Style and Content:
We allow any hand drawn and crafted illustrative mediums, both digital and traditional. Content is entirely up to you and may
include anything relevant to both the theme "I Dream" and Anime/Manga style, including, but not limited to: original/fanart art,
illustrations and comic pages/strips (colour or otherwise). Entries that fail to meet these requirements will be disqualified.
While this is an Anime/Manga contest, do not feel that your style has to be limited to mainstream or 'cliché'. Anime/Manga style
is any style influenced by the Japanese comic/cartoon culture and covers a wide array of styles. You will not be penalized for
having your own unique style and stylistic creativity is in fact most welcomed by the judges. Unless your are submitting something
that clearly has no Japanese comic/cartoon influence or relevance, you don't have to worry about limiting your styles. If you have
any concerns about your style or if you feel it might not be anime enough, feel free to request approval and post a link to 1
(one) sample in a comment in this journal entry and one of the judges will let you know if there will be a problem. Judges will
not go fishing through your gallery if you post more than one link or request us to look at your gallery.
3D and Craft:
Please note that any works crafted in 3 dimensions (digital or otherwise) will be judged strictly on their illustrative merit
and function as a picture as a whole and not as a sculpture or model. Models used for illustrations must be 100% modelled/crafted
by the entrant, stock models and dolls (ie: BJDs and Barbies) are not allowed. This is an illustration contest and all mediums
will be judged as illustrations.
Animation:
While animations are allowed, there is a strict 3 second rule. Please note that while you can make your illustration move,
animations will not earn you more points for creativity or effort simply for being animated. For example, a walk cycle will be
judged the same as a drawing as a person walking and an animation of a person falling will be judged the same as a still drawing
of a person falling. Animation has moving composition, which can count against you as far as overall composition goes if not done
right, Unless the animation brings something new or necessary to your picture, it is not recommended. Again, it will be judged as
an illustration and any animations over 3 seconds will be disqualified.
Text and Literature:
Literary entries are not permitted. While you are allowed to include text in the entry, entries that are wholly or largely
composed of literature rather than illustration will be disqualified at the judges discretion. Please make sure that any entries
you submit that contains some literature is still about the picture and not about the text, the entry should not have to rely on
text to convey it's message, particularly when submitting comic pages/strips that contain text. Any literature that may appear in
your entry must be written 100% by yourself and may not contain song lyrics, poetry, quotes or prose belonging to someone
else.
Photography, Photo Manipulation and Stock:
Strait up photography and photo manipulation is not allowed except in cases where it is necessary to submit an entry as a
photograph (ie: entry is painted on a canvas too big to scan and must be photographed.) Stock allowance (photography or otherwise)
is limited to textures, brushes, renders (non-character) and minor background elements. All stock used must be available
specifically as stock with full permission from the stock artist (google and other image searches are not stock) and credited in
the submission description.
Collaborations:
Collaborations are not allowed, the only exceptions to this are if it is stock used from another stock artist.
Other:
Submissions created and submitted before before the start date (Monday June 15 2009) will not be accepted, only entries
created specifically for this contest will be allowed.
You may submit as many entries as you like, however it is advised to spend your effort on one or two rather than divide your
effort among many, we are looking for quality, not quantity, and only one of your submissions may be accepted for one of the
winning spots.
Traced or copied art is strictly prohibited. Anyone caught entering with traced/vectored/copied or ripped/stolen art by any other
name will be disqualified and banned from the contest immediately.
Contest ends July 15th, 2009 and will not be extended.

I'm gonna have to say, maybe a touch against my better judgement: but does it not kinda suck, ALOT, when the people who worked hard on their entries, who just want to be kept in the loop as to whats going on for something they put heart and effort into; are dropped like a new born giraffe? KERPLOP.
I get that people are busy, I get that people have lives, and issues, and things that cause hell to get in the way of things like these. I DO get that. Comments here have exampled nothing but compassion, and understanding for busy schedules. Despite that though, there is a simple kindness that should be shown toward the people who have taken part.
Even if it's just a tiny bit, there is an obligation to let the participants know whats going on in the brains of the judges.
There. I said it. I await the pitch forks.
not that i was trying to digress from your point. I think thats very noble to, from the start, plan to do your best to have/make the time.
The judges are right there on the news article, did you try to contact one of us directly even?
Was there no time on any of the judges part since then to say to those participating in their contest; "hey, further more, sorry for the delay, shit's hit the fan, we haven't forgotten about you, we'll update again ASAP, we'll keep you in the know, ect"?

And in all my personal-themed journals I'm sure I've mentioned judging of the contest to be part of my to-do list as well. Constantly, consistently assuring people that the contest was not dropped, and letting them know every single time when myself or any of the other judges got into a fix.
Now do you actually understand what I'm saying? You say we don't keep anyone posted but I do, and I accept responsibility for the late posting of the results but I don't accept taking the blame for people not being updated on our progress. If you didn't contact any of us to ask a question then honestly it's not our fault but yours.
Looking at comments on this article was obviously not the only way of finding out about the contest progress, in fact it's the worst way since if we're in trouble and problems we won't have time to stalk the article and answer questions daily.
I just told you, I kept people constantly posted on what was going on, -all- the time. Some of the other judges aren't even able to come onto dA at all, and me being the initiator of this contest was fully responsible for keeping everyone posted despite how hard it was fr me too.
Anyway if you were following my updates at all (I don't know if you are but I doubt it from your comments here), you'd know that the winning article was posted a little while ago. [link]
Yeah, I kinda firured you didn't say that to say I was wrong ^^
No worries if not, though. I'm just curious.
